The California Public Employee Retirement System provides retirement and health benefits to public employees, retirees, their families and employers throughout the state. Established in the 1930s, CalPERS was one of the nation’s first state employees’ retirement programs. CalPERS has remained an innovator in benefits and services for public employees and today is the nation’s largest public pension fund.

CalPERS’ mission is to advance the financial and health security for all who participate in the System. CalPERS fulfills this mission by maintaining an environment that is responsive to those it serves – the 1.5 million California public employees and their families.
